Meet Democrat Ann Bonney

Ann Bonney has served Connecticut through a variety of roles in healthcare, youth programming, and education. She is passionate about the environment, creating business opportunities, listening to the needs and concerns of her neighbors, and developing solutions that uplift all Connecticut residents.

At ECHN, Ann supervised four departments: Child Life—preparing children and parents for surgery and procedures; Employee Child Care Center; Family Birthing Center renovation and marketing; and Parenting Education and Child Abuse Prevention. She was presented with the "Child Advocate" award by the community Child Protection Team. Ann co-developed the YWCA Time Out for Parents program that was recognized as a national model program by the National Committee for the Prevention of Child Abuse.

Ann, as Executive Director of the Connecticut Association of Mental Health Clinics for Children, worked on complex Medicaid managed care issues and lobbied for health and mental health care for all.

During her 14 years at Manchester Community College, Ann directed the Credit Free Programs in Continuing Education. She was also liaison to the MCC Organization of Active Adults, with over 2000 members. From the College, she earned the "Diversity Champion" award.

Ann's parents and late husband were small business owners and real estate brokers, so she understands the challenges our Main Streets are facing. She helped to establish the Work_Space in downtown Manchester, a co-working facility for artists and entrepreneurs.
Ann holds a Master's Degree from lowa State University and a Bachelor's degree from Cornell University, both with Honors. She has a large, loving family and eight grandchildren. For fun, Ann hikes the rail trails with her pup Teddy, skis every winter, and sails during the summer. Ann is devoted to composting, recycling, and preserving a clean, beautiful community.

Ann's Priorities

Energy Costs - Work with other legislators and industry leaders to aggressively reduce the crippling cost of electric energy in Connecticut.

Lower Taxes - Cut taxes, especially for the lowest income people who currently pay the highest proportion of taxes, fix the burden of the cliff on pension tax, and create tax deferral programs for seniors who want to enjoy retirement in place. Support small businesses with grants, loans and tax incentives to be successful.

Low Cost, High Speed Internet Access - Make technology training available for all residents, support businesses as they incorporate technology to improve their operations, and provide career training to provide qualified employees for local business growth. Regulate internet providers as a utility to lower cost and improve service and responsiveness to customers.

Women’s Right to Choose and Healthcare - Ensure broad access to both physical and mental healthcare in our communities while expanding access to affordable health insurance. Offer tax incentives to businesses to incentivize and assist in the transition to employer-sponsored health insurance.

Safe Communities - Make drinking water safe from radon, salts, lead, PFAS and other forever chemicals. Ensure schools, workplaces and communities are safe from bullying, discrimination, sexual violence, cyber threats, unsafe products, and climate change. Fight for common sense gun regulations.

Fair Wages and Respectful Workplaces - Ensure every employee has the opportunity to work with dignity and plan for a rewarding retirement.

Support for Education - Fully fund early childhood education, secondary education, and higher education—both universities and community colleges. Provide not only for students and educators, but for facilities, research, community education, and workplace training, too.
